Receiving

Why is it so hard for us to receive something most of the time? I suppose it is because we have been taught to be givers and not takers, right? And that is Biblically true. However, the Bible does teach us to receive.

Let's look at it this way; we often receive throughout the day. We receive our parenting duties throughout the day, our work responsibilities, our ride when we carpool, and we even receive money from others when we're collecting for the bosses Christmas gift fund or some charitable organization! So why is it when we personally need something we won't receive it?

Here's what I'm getting at...people give us a gift and we say, "oh, you shouldn't have," or "what's this for?" because we don't know what to say and we can even be embarrassed to take it. Maybe it's because we didn't think to give them a gift... but did we need to give them one?

God gave us a gift in His Son and we are to receive that gift. Some choose not to but why? This is a gift of love and life to us so why would anyone choose not to receive it? God has many gifts for us and they often come through other people. Jesus happens to be the first and very best but without Him the other gifts aren't ready to be unwrapped yet. Take... receive... the gift of Jesus today. Begin your year with Him and then you will reap the gifts of His abundance the entire year!
